Mosquitoes can be a real nuisance. Not just can they ruin your outdoor fun, but they can spread all kinds of nasty diseases. If you want to prevent mosquitoes in your yard, you have to know how they work. That way, you can keep them out of your yard and keep your family healthy. Most mosquitoes are not interested in your yard because it doesn’t contain the things they need to grow. So you don’t have to worry about them taking over. However, there are a few ways to make your yard unattractive to mosquitoes.

Keep the place well-lit with candles and bug bulbs

We have all heard the saying, “Out of sight, out of mind.” It can be applied to everything from our health to the safety of our homes. When it comes to keeping those pesky mosquitoes out of your yard, there is no better way than to keep the place well-lit. In fact, mosquitoes are not attracted to just any light but specifically to yellow light. Mosquitoes use a photoreceptor in their eyes to detect the color yellow since it is more visible to them than any other color in the spectrum. When they see a yellow light, they think it is dawn or dusk, and they start to flock in. It is important that you do not just keep your place well-lit, but that you keep it well-lit with yellow light, such as candles and bug bulbs that can attract and kill mosquitos effectively.

Reduce mosquito hiding spots

If you have a yard, you probably know about mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are a nuisance, especially when you’re trying to enjoy a summer evening outside. They’re also a danger to your health. Mosquitoes carry diseases that are harmful to humans, such as West Nile Virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and the Zika virus. In fact, the mosquito is the deadliest animal on the planet. They can carry disease with a 90% mortality rate. Unfortunately they hide very well and their hiding spots are hard to find and eliminate.

Mosquitoes need water to breed. If you have a pool, remove the leaves from the water’s surface (pool covers are a good idea, too). If you have a pond, remove the leaves from the water’s surface and use a shallow fountain to aerate the water.

Get professional help

Mosquitoes can be an annoyance to some people; they are dangerous pests to others. Mosquitoes are not only a nuisance but also a health hazard. The CDC estimates that as many as 500,000 people in the United States become infected with the West Nile Virus every year. It’s no wonder then that mosquito control is a multi-billion dollar business. If you are tired of having an infestation of mosquitoes in your yard, you may want to consider hiring a professional to handle the problem for you.

Mosquito control is not something that you can do on your own, especially in the case of a large property. Prevention of mosquitoes requires a lot of work, research, training and knowledge. There are a lot of chemicals and different techniques that are used in the control of mosquitoes. It is important that you make sure that the person or business you hire to help you with the control of mosquitoes is licensed and knowledgeable. It would help if you made sure that the methods they use are effective and safe for the health of your family and pets.

Place safe mosquito repellent in your water features

Mosquitoes are not just a nuisance; they’re also a health risk. Mosquito repellent is a solution used to keep mosquitoes away from certain areas. Mosquito repellent is usually used in areas where mosquitoes are abundant, such as swampy or marshy areas. They are also used to keep mosquitoes away from your home or yard. Mosquito repellent is usually a chemical solution you pour into a body of water to discourage mosquitoes from laying eggs.

For example, Mosquito Dunks® is a safe alternative to toxic bug sprays. You just need to drop them in water, and they start working to repel mosquitoes. Mosquito Dunks® can be used in any size water feature, including birdbaths, fountains, ponds, and pools. They’re very effective in less than 24 hours and can last up to 30 days in the water.
